The Student Meets The Master

2022-09-25

Day two began with some unfortunate changes in the weather. After enjoying our first breakfast espressos with some wonderful cookies, we met our driver to begin the day's itinerary. Our first stop was an olive oil factory for a short tour and a complete tasting of practically every product they made. Some these included:

  • Classic olive oils
  • Infused olive oils with practically anything (basil, onion, peppers, vanilla)
  • Balsamic vinegar and glazes
  • (Most importantly) Liquors like limoncello, pistacchio, and baba

Unfortunately we did not get to see much of the farm as the rain was pouring at this point. We continued on to our next activity, pizza making! While none of us came out as fully-formed pizza maestros (despite Dad's many questions to gain as much knowledge to bring home), we all made delicious pizza. It helped that we started with probably some of the best dough I've ever had, along with amazing sauce and cheese, but c'mon we still could have screwed it up at some point there. Finally we headed to Pompei to see the ruins. Despite the very wet weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Guided by the wonderful Charlotte, we saw bars, houses, castes of the remains, and asked questions about sanitation (well just Dad did).

After a long day, we elected to stay home and eat some of our pizza leftovers, break into our limoncello and pistacchio liquor and pasta. Thus concluded a drenched, but eventful and fun day 2.
